Homage to the F.A.O.
20 in / 50 cm
Created for a contest in homage of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (F.A.O.), this sculpture represents the sharing of the Earth’s riches. Four figures of different races, a man, a woman, a child and an angel, are standing back to back; each is holding an offering of food: an apple, fish or wheat. In the middle, the angel, fist in the air in a pose similar to that of Marianne of the French Revolution (because the distribution of riches requires a revolution), brandishes a wheat sheaf, symbol of sharing and offering. The entire sculpture is resting on the child’s legs, reminding us that the future is dependent upon youth.
Treatment
Bronze (20in/50cm). All the figures have a black patina. The hair is bluish. To highlight the riches to be shared, the objects held by the figures (apple, fish, wheat sheaves) are very colourful.
A series of eight and four artist’s proofs.
