Search for the philosopher’s stone.

An Indian angel is invoking the heavens, seeking Knowledge.

Anecdote
The first time I showed this sculpture, I had placed a large drop of mercury on the leaf. The liquid metal perfectly incarnated the symbolism of the piece. But there always seemed to be an incredulous visitor who would disregard the warning placed near the sculpture and touch the mercury, which quickly dispersed in all directions. After cleaning up numerous tiny drops of mercury from the gallery floor on hands and knees, I stopped placing a drop of mercury on the piece.

Treatment
Bronze on sliced amethyst (17in/43cm), with a granite base. The figure’s skin has a golden patina; the wings are black and the hair bluish. The leaf is light green. The Indian’s hair ornaments are mirror polished.

Unique piece.
