Adolescence and its distinctive signs: big boots to give a tough, ferocious and indifferent appearance, while inside is tenderness and vulnerability.
One is holding a book. Frozen in her shyness and held in check by her emotions, she wants to say “Yes” but manages only to smile silently. The second ingenue is jumping at the latest news. Their hair reminds us of the nearness of childhood.
Anecdote
For several years, I was in a relationship with a musician, father of beautiful twins that I considered my daughters. This sculpture was created at the beginning of their adolescence.
Treatment
Bronze on granite (14.5in/37cm). The skin is textured with ferric nitrate. The socks are white, the book is burgundy, and the boots and hair are black.
