My “Wednesday Reflections”: Tribute to the Vendée Globe
The Vendée Globe, known as the Everest of the Seas, is the largest solo, non-stop sailing race around the world.
The start took place on November 10th from the port of Les Sables-d’Olonne in France.
The race also finishes at Les Sables-d’Olonne, after circumnavigating the planet.
In the nine editions of this race, which occurs every four years, only 114 competitors have succeeded in crossing the finish line.
This number reflects the extreme difficulty of this global event where sailors face freezing cold, monstrous waves, and heavy skies of the Southern Ocean!
The Vendée Globe is above all a journey to the ends of the sea and to the depths of oneself.
Sculpture “The Wind Beneath Her Wings” (19in/48cm) Acid-patinated bronze.
Full of joy, a young female angel is preparing to follow her lucky star.
She holds the tip of her wing like a ship’s sail to catch the wind and accelerate her flight.
Confident and happy, she opens her arms wide and has already left the ground, her right foot resting on her star.
A large ribbon highlights her grace and fluidity.
